Salmon Runs

**Availability and timing of each wild salmon run is dependent on Mother Nature!

Bristol Bay, AK - Largest Sockeye fishery in the world. This area collects one-third of all salmon harvested in Alaska, including Sockeye and King.

Cook Inlet, AK - This region includes the most densely populated part of Alaska. Anchorage is located at the head of Cook Inlet.

Copper River, AK – This is one of the longest and most rugged rivers in Alaska and is one of the first to see wild salmon return at the start of the season. Because the Copper River salmon’s journey is so long, they must store extra fat and oils in order to survive the long trip. This high fat and oil content is why Copper River salmon are recognized as among the most flavorful salmon.

Kodiak Island, AK - Every salmon species that swims the Northern Pacific make their way here. The city of Kodiak is the largest fish port in the U.S. The island of Kodiak has 117 salmon streams.

Prince William Sound, AK - Over 3,000 miles of shore line. Some of the largest salmon have been routinely caught in this region of Alaska.

Sitka, AK - Located in the middle of the pristine Tongass National Forest, 50% of all Alaska Coho are harvested here.

Stikine River, AK - The Stikine River sent salmon to market in 2005 for the first time in 25 years. It is expected to peak again in May this year. Referred to as the “Great River” by the natives of the region, the Stikine is an international river beginning in British Columbia's Spatsizi Plateau and ending near Wrangell, Alaska.

Taku River, AK – Before 2005, this run of Alaska King salmon had not been commercially open since 1974. It runs from the interior of British Columbia to the Pacific Ocean, just south of Juneau.

Yukon River, AK - The longest river in Alaska with over half the river in Alaska with the other portion lying in Canada's Yukon Territory. This river is primarily home to King salmon.
